IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT RCC CHESS
Beginning Fall 2006, Russian Cultural Center will begin offering three levels of chess instruction in order to accomodate all levels of chess players and help everyone improve their level of play. We will also have a new children's chess instructor joining our ranks! More information on these developments will be posted as soon as it is available.

Beginner

Intermediate

Advanced

Chess is called gymnastics for the mind. Chess players are thorough, quick witted, and intelligent. In the 1970s some Soviet schools conducted an experiment: chess became mandatory in the early education.  The results at the end of the school year proved to be astonishing: students who took chess did better in ALL subjects, versus those who did not. Chess allows us to understand how many facets life has and teaches us how to judge situations clearly - in life and on the chess board.

Bring your children to Chess class and in a little bit of time you will notice their new character traits, so very necessary in their future "grown-up" life.

Important Announcement:

Classes will begin promptly at 10:00. Beginning with a 20-30 minute interactive lesson, with the remaining time of class to be devoted to observed practice play, and one-on-one teacher-student interaction.

No matter if your child is a beginner or experienced chess competitor. All ages and skill levels are welcome. The class schedule will be adjusted to offer individual attention to suit the needs of each child.

CHESS INSTRUCTOR
Certified U.S.C.F. Chess Coach
Timothy Moroney

At the young age of 17, Timothy Moroney is a very accomplished chess player
and chess instructor.

Tim was first introduced to the game of chess by his older brother at the age of 8. At the age of 11 he entered into his first chess tournament and became a member of the United States Chess Federation (USCF). He has maintained his USCF membership and continues to compete today in scholastic and adult tournaments.

Tim has worked very hard at chess, and now celebrates a number of
achievements. In the short span of time since his first tournament, he has
developed his skill to the point that he has now been ranked in the top 100
scholastic players for his age group for the past four years, out of 12,000
players. Last year he achieved a ranking in the top 100 players in
Michigan, out of players ranging in ages from 4 to 100 years old, a position
which he still maintains.

Along the way, he has obtained a handful of State Chess Championship titles,
and four National Chess Championship titles. Most recent of those was in
November, 2005 when he won the K-12 National Youth Action Chess
Championship.

Tim has qualified himself as a Chess Tournament Director, and a successful
Chess Instructor. He has been officially certified by the USCF as a
Tournament Director and Chess Coach since the age of 13, the youngest in the
United States.

Since that time, he has taught chess for public schools, private schools,
homeschool groups, chess camps, and private lessons, to students ranging in
age from 5 years old to adults. He also runs tournaments for scholastic
and adult players.

Tim is currently rated at 1950 with USCF and is working to raise it to
Expert level.
